from Felix Richter, July 24th, 2014 While Facebook's overall user growth has naturally slowed down a bit - monthly active users grew 3% on a quarter-to-quarter basis and 14% year-over-year - the number of users who access Facebook via mobile devices is still growing rapidly. Of Facebook's 1.07 billion mobile users, 399 million access Facebook exclusively on mobile devices, representing an increase of more than 80% over last year's second quarter and of almost 20% compared to the March quarter of this year. Thankfully, Facebook has successfully figured out how to monetize its mobile users, because one thing is now more clear than ever: Facebook's future is mobile. This charts shows Facebook's monthly active users, broken down by the type of device they access the social network on.

from Mathias Brandt, July 18th, 2014 With 22 percent more revenue and a $3.4 billion profit in the second quarter, Google is flourishing. All that money is stemming from the search engine’s thriving advertising sector and the 25% increase in the paid click rate between April and June bears testament to that. Remarkably, however, the price of Google ads are falling. In fact, the average cost per click (CPC) has been declining for over two years, falling 6 percent in the second quarter of 2014. The last positive change occurred in the third quarter of 2011 when it rose 5 percent. All quarterly figures can be found at Google. |
